Dr Hugo Micheron

Hugo Micheron is a researcher and lecturer at Sciences Po Paris (PSIA), affiliated with the Centre for International Studies (CERI), and a Senior Fellow at the Program on Extremism at George Washington University. He holds a PhD from the École normale supérieure (ENS), and degrees from King’s College London (Middle Eastern Studies, valedictorian) and Sciences Po Aix. From 2020 to 2023, he was a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at Princeton University. A specialist in jihadism in Europe and the Middle East, he has conducted extensive fieldwork since 2010 in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey, France, and Belgium, including interviews with imprisoned jihadists, returnees, and members of ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra. His research focuses on jihadist networks, prison radicalization, and information warfare strategies. He is the author of Le Jihadisme français (Gallimard, 2020) and La Colère et l’Oubli (2023), awarded the Prix Femina for nonfiction. His next book, Jihadism in Europe, will be published by Oxford University Press. He leads the “Artificial Intelligence, Democracy, and the Information Milieu” program at Sciences Po and co-founded Arlequin AI in 2023, a deeptech startup specializing in social data analysis using cutting edge proprietary AI models. His expertise is regularly sought by French and European institutions, notably during the November 13 Paris attacks trial and in the gov-tech sector.
