Amal Kasry

Chief of Section, UNESCO

Amal Kasry is the Chief of Section for Basic Sciences, Research, Innovation and Engineering at UNESCO. She leads the design and implementation of programmes that support Member States in building capacity in basic and engineering sciences for research, education, and innovation.

With a PhD in biosensing technologies from Johannes Gutenberg University and a fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, she has held academic and research roles across Europe, the US, and Asia, including at IBM, Austrian Institute of Technology, and Cardiff University. Formerly Director of the Nanotechnology Research Centre at the British University in Egypt, she has authored ~40 peer-reviewed publications, 7 book chapters, and holds 4 patents. Her expertise spans materials science, nanotechnology, and science policy.
